No ice at all coming out of the machine
Follow the water rather than the mechanism. A saddle valve turned nearly closed, a fill tube frozen shut, or a filter long past its service date will each stop supply arriving, and each one is inexpensive to correct.

Cubes coming out hollow, cloudy or half formed
Cube quality is a product of fill volume and freeze time. A valve metering too little water, or a thermostat harvesting before the mold has frozen through, gives you shells and cloud instead of clear solid cubes.

Ice looks right but tastes wrong
Very little about this is mechanical. A filter left in past its service life, or a bin nobody has emptied and scrubbed in a long while, explains bad-tasting ice far more often than any component in the machine does.

Machine cycling endlessly while the bin sits empty
Nothing is telling the unit to stop. That signal comes from the bin thermostat or the level sensor and either can go silent; on undercounter models a worn auger bearing produces the same continuous cycling.

Water collecting on the floor beneath the unit
Water headed somewhere it should not be took one of three detours: a drain line blocked with sediment, a condensate pump that has quit, or a bin gasket stiff enough that it no longer seals against the cabinet.

Grinding sound during the harvest cycle
That noise is the auger, and it sounds nothing like normal cycling. Either the motor coupling has worked loose on its shaft, or the auger is fighting a frozen slab that it cannot break apart cleanly.

FOLLOWING THE WATER BEFORE THE MACHINE
An ice maker that produces nothing looks like a dead machine and usually is not. The supply path has four points where it can be interrupted, and every one of them is cheaper to fix than the assembly people assume has failed. The saddle valve gets checked for a position somewhere near closed, which happens when someone works under the sink and does not put it back. The fill tube gets thawed and examined for the ice plug that formed when a harvest ran short. The inlet valve is metered for coil resistance and watched for actual flow, and the filter is pulled and read against its service date. Only then does attention move inside.
UNDERCOUNTER PLATFORMS AND HOW THEY DIFFER
A clear-ice undercounter machine, a nugget machine with an auger, and the ice section built into a refrigerator column are three different pieces of engineering that happen to share an output. Scale forms in the fill valve, in the mold or on the evaporator, and inside the water path where nobody sees it.
